About this production
When Jonathan Harker journeys to Transylvania to meet the mysterious Count Dracula, he finds himself trapped in a dark and terrifying world. Bram Stoker’s compelling gothic horror story continues to haunt and disturb our imagination. This highly visual and physical production delves into its disturbing themes of identity, sanity, fear, sensuality and desire.
Dracula has been co-devised by an ensemble cast. This collaborative process requires actors on a creative and interpretive level who contribute imaginative ideas to the collective narrative of the performance. The challenge of adapting a literary work to a theatrical context has involved combining Greek Chorus (space, formation and gesture) with Melodrama (where music accompanies the action). The relationship between these two theatrical styles aims to amplify the emotional connection between the audience and the story.
OXFAM generously donated clothes to the production, which were used to create costumes, necessitating an eco-friendly approach to performance design.
Dracula celebrates the spirit of collaboration between the BA Acting, BA Costume with Performance Design, BA Film, FdA Make up, BA Animation, BA Model Making and FdA Digital Media Production courses at The Arts University Bournemouth and has been produced by the AUB School of Performance.
